Couples and Family Therapy

The program trains clinicians to be well-versed in major models of couple and family therapy. PBU prepares professionals to be specialists in Couple and Family Therapy through advanced training. Our program prepares doctoral candidates with advanced specialized skills, experience, and knowledge as clinicians, educators, and researchers. The PhD in Couple and Family Therapy curriculum prepares students to serve a culturally diverse society. The PhD curriculum in Couple and Family Therapy is based on the Doctoral Form 605 (Effective July 2013) Page 5 of 14 Curriculum set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE)

Mental Health Counseling

Master of Science

The program covers the theories and practical skills you need to evaluate and treat mental health disorders, so people can live happier, healthier lives. The curriculum provides students with a comprehensive foundation that covers theories and treatment ofmental illness.

Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology

This program offers a unique interdisciplinary opportunity in the field of human sexuality and clinical therapy. The program components include 40 credit hours of core coursework (which includes 50 hours of clinical supervision), 20 credit hours of dissertation work (10 credit hours of dissertation research and 10 credit hours of dissertation defense), and a comprehensive exam. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to be the next generation of professionals with critical, in-depth content knowledge in human sexuality, research and analysis skills, social and relational dynamics, and clinical expertise. Drawing on gender studies, critical theory, sex therapy, public health, education, sexology, social construction, queer theory, anthropology, and public policy, students will be uniquely Form 605 (Effective July 2013) Page 7 of 14 qualified to address a wide range of topics from a holistic and integrated clinical perspective.

Ph.D. in Forensic Mental Health

TThe program provides students with the knowledge and experience they need to conduct forensic assessments, design treatment programs, give insight into an individual’s mental capacity, testify in course, and assist with investigations.

The program trains clinicians to be well versed in major models of addiction psychology. PBU prepares professionals to be specialists in substance use and addictive disorders through advanced training in addictive disorders, including theory, research, assessment, and treatment

Ph.D. in Trauma Mental Health

The program provides students with the theoretical, research, and clinical foundation for developing expertise in working with those who have experienced trauma. Students enrolled in the program will receive specialized education and training in evidence-based assessment and treatment modalities used in trauma mental health.
